Clear and bright with pale green and straw highlights. Fragrant and intense with passion fruit, grapefruit and lime on the nose. An excellent balance between crisp acidity and concentration with a long, clean finish.
Wine Spectator 87 points - Light-bodied, but still packs a wallop both in flavor and crisp acidity. Green apple, lemon, lime and gooseberry flavors are intense, focused and very refreshing. Drink now. 15,833 cases made. –MW
Renowned for his singular Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Sauvignon Blanc, Marchese Lodovico Antinori wanted to make a wine that captured the same crisp, natural exuberance of the grape, while displaying restraint, elegance and structure. In 2003, he found what he was looking for in Marlborough, New Zealand. Together with his brother Piero Antinori, they purchased a portion of the Meadowbank vineyard which they renamed Mount Nelson. Lodovico realized his dream of creating a signature Sauvignon Blanc outside of Tuscany in 2004 with the first vintage of Mount Nelson.
| Technical notes |
| Located 60 feet above sea level on the banks of Taylor River, the estate vineyard is composed of free draining alluvial loams over deep, stony river deposits. 60% of the fruit is estate, the remainder was purchased from the adjoining Meadowbank vineyard. After picking, the fruit was cold soaked for 48 hours in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Using selected yeasts to maintain and enhance the cool climate character of the wine, the juice was cold fermentated for 10 to 14 days. |
